What is the J-Hook Tree Builder

The J-Hook Tree Builder is an innovative addition to our list of products. The J-Hook Tree Builder is a do-it-yourself, customizable J-Hook Tree that will cater to all of your cabling solutions. This is a great alternative from the usual raceway and busway cabling system that require a more tedious installation process and also cost a lot more.

The J-Hook Tree Builder consists of a structural skeleton with multiple tier configuration of J-Hooks. It features our HPH Series Metal/Plastic J-Hooks, ideal for Low Voltage Cable Support.

What are the HPH Series J-Hooks?

HPH stands for High Performance Hybrid; the product itself is a hybrid of polymer plastic and galvanized steel.

Polymer, the plastic component of the J-Hook, acts as the cradle that holds the cables and is used as the base to provide support while the bend radius at the base is also optimized to remove the stress and to reduce the pressure from the cables.

On the other hand, galvanized steel, the metal component of the J-Hook, acts as the backbone of the hook that supports the overall contraption. The steel skeleton of the J-Hook makes it capable of handling heavy-duty cabling and to carry the necessary load capacity to hold these heavy cables.

The smooth finish inside the hook is burr-free, designed to pull the cables easily through it without damaging the cable’s outer sheath. The J-Hook finish uses the eco-friendly Zinc Cr3+ and its different colors provide a sleek look as it distinguishes itself from all the other building elements. It also features a ‘strap-lock’ retainer that snaps in place, locking and keeping your cables in the J-Hook with ease, instead of using Velcro or cable ties to secure the cables.

The HPH J-Hook is compliant, or in some cases, exceeds industry standards.

It is UL listed, meaning that it has met the stringent requirements of certification of the Underwriters Laboratories. UL describes itself as the “world leader in product safety testing and certification”. Most pre-assembled attachments included in the J-Hook series are guaranteed to be safe as certified by UL.

It is also RoHS compliant, meeting the standards of the Restriction of Hazardous Substances that limits the use of products that cause negative effects on the environment and health impacts as well. It is also plenum compliant and is suitable for air-handling spaces.

The HPH J-Hook is also in compliance with the TIA, or the Telecommunications Industry Association, and exceeds the standards set by this esteemed institution. An example of this is that the HPH J-Hook’s bend radius is bigger than the 3.57 inches industry standard. A smaller bend radius tends to cause kinks in the cable sheath. A bigger bend radius means better housing for fiber optic and high-performance cables such as Cat6, Cat6a and Cat7. It reduces pressure points in the drop of the cable at both sides of the hook as it anticipates the natural contour of the cable once it is in contact with the J-Hook. The base is designed to be wider than the regular J-Hook that you can find on the market, preventing problems like indentation, creasing, pinches and other deformations in the cable sheath, making it ideal for data cables that route sensitive data.

What are available J-Hook sizes that you can use in the J-Hook Tree Builder?

You can use 4 different sizes of J-hooks to configure your J-Hook Tree.  Check our handy table, to ensure you calculate the correct capacity for each size j-hook. Please take note that the cable capacity is calculated on 70% and 100% fill rate assumptions and actual capacity may vary based on outside diameter variances of different types and manufacturers of CAT cable.

Be sure to check with your cable manufacturer to make sure that the correct cable diameter is used in the computation.

What are the configurations available in the J-Hook Tree Builder System? 

The J-Hook Tree Builder System makes use of the 1”, 2”, 3” and 4” HPH J-Hooks. You have the option to choose to make it single sided or double sided, i.e. 2 J-Hooks placed back to back to each other. You will also have the option to design it in multiple tiers. You can stack from 1-tier to up to 4-tiered J-Hooks. To finish it off, you can choose from an assortment of attachments that is suitable for the installation manner and location of your J-Hook Tree System.

What are the attachments available for the J-Hook Tree Builder and what is its corresponding installation method?

There are different attachments available to the J-Hook Tree Builder system. These attachments are suited to match your ideal method of installation.

The Angle Clip – The angle clip comes with the ¼” diameter and a 3/8” diameter hole. The angle clip is used for mounting to horizontal surfaces or to a threaded rod.

To mount to a horizontal surface, use a powder actuated tool to attach the J-Hook Tree to a material that is capable of carrying the load of the J-Hook Tree such as concrete. To attach to a threaded rod, use two standard hex nuts and sandwich the angle clip in between the two threaded nuts. You can also attach the angle-clip directly to the underside of the horizontal surface by using the appropriate fastener with the right head diameter and length, depending on the type of diameter of your angle clip.

The Knock-on Beam Clamp Flanges – the knock-on beam clamp flanges come in two options: 5/16”–1-2” thick and 1/8”-14” thick. This type of attachment is used for mounting to steel beams by connecting to the flange.

To mount to a beam, use a hammer to secure the knock-on beam clamp to the beam flange.

The Spring Steel Beam Clamp Flanges – the spring steel beam clamp flanges come in two options: ½” flange and the 1/8”-1/2” flange that swivels to 360°. This type of attachment is used for mounting to steel beams by connecting to the flange.

To mount to a beam, use a 3/8” socket driver, Philips head screw driver or a wrench to secure the screw-on clamp to the beam flange.

The Eye Coupling - The eye coupling comes with the ¼” diameter and a 3/8” diameter threaded rod. The eye coupling is used for mounting to a threaded rod.

To mount to a threaded rod, just screw the J-Hook Tree Builder to the threaded rod until up until your desired height.

The J-hook tree has a hole at the top that is suitable for vertical surface installations. To mount the J-Hook Tree, use the appropriate nail, bolt or screw. You can use the minimum head diameter of 0.329”, the length of the nail, bolt, or screw should be appropriate to the length of your mounting surface.
